No Electric GridWe had the  Oil embargo of 1973 which disrupted energy supplies by a new group known as OPEC.  In 1975 a writer by the name of Edward Abbey first  wrote of destroying the infrastructure in the name  of the environment in the novel,  THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG. The Islamic Terrorist of  September 11, 2001 plotted, then destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City and severely damaged the Pentagon in Washington DC.

How hard do you think it would be to knock a few well placed power lines down and cause the system to short circuit?  Possibly causing another power grid collapse like the September 2003 Northeast incident that effected 55 million people?

Not hard at all!  Our grid is not isolated. Not guarded. The grid travels vast distances via remote power lines through forests, over mountains and touches many power generation stations and substations before delivering electricity to the end user. It is easy to physically access many grid towers without even being seen.

Our power companies and our government are now shouting the latest and greatest invention: the Smart Grid. There are lots of problems with the Smart Grid,  but the  most pressing  problem is a National Security problem.   April 8, 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Chinese and Russians,  plus others had infiltrated our electrical grid. They caused no damage, but they mapped our electrical system and left tools behind that could be turned on in the event of war to disrupt our power infrastructure. The digital Smart Grid, with everyones home connected digitally to a monolithic electric generation and distribution system may be even easier to hack into.

Solution to Electric Grid is Decentralized PowerThe Solution has been looked at and studied.  The solution is called decentralized power generation.   Simply put, instead of using huge electrical generation stations and transporting the electricity many miles (often times 1000′s of miles),  electricity can be produced almost directly at the point of use. For instance, if your single family home needed electricity, it could be produced  much more efficiently and cheaply via fuel cells,  solar arrays, stirling engines, conventional generators, or other available devices, right on your property using clean natural gas or the sun.  Possibly, electricity could be stored in a local battery bank for further efficiency of use.  Apartments and other multi-family dwellings could have a centralized power station for all their electrical needs. It is conceivable that a neighborhood power station, producing electricity for 2 to 50 homes may also be a more efficient and workable solution to power homes.

Any way we go about producing electricity without the grid, enhances our future. National Security fears  about collapsing electronic infrastructure will be alleviated. Our Economic Future also effects our National Security. We spend enormous amounts of our Gross Domestic Product on power and energy. Did you know that half (50%) to over 70% of your electric bill goes to paying for the Grid plus other programs? Yes that’s right!  Distribution of Energy is your most expensive component on your energy bill. NOT THE ENERGY USED TO PRODUCE THE ELECTRICITY!

Our country has goals that need to be paid for such as our military, our national debt, educating our young and many others. Every dime extra that we dump into energy, without producing something of great value,  takes away the resources needed to keep this country at the forefront of all other countries in technology, freedoms and lifestyle. The Goal of this web site is to move us from Grid to Decentralized Power Generation, as soon as possible.
